1. Arthur Brereton

According to CWBM, Arthur Brereton emigrated to Canada in 1846,departing from Tipperary, Ireland and settling in Montreal. However, hiswife Jane is listed as being buried in Bolton, England, where they bothwere born. Arthur was said to be about 96 when his grand-daughter Helen(Boo-Nana) was born in 1875, making his birth date around 1779 -- duringthe American Revolution. Family history has always described him as aScotland Yard detective, though the time does not seem right. When didPeel create the Met?

"Arthur Brereton moved from Ireland to Montreal, Canada in 1846; hadtwo sons, Henry and Thomas, who left large families in the vicinity ofMontreal. Henry Brereton (1826-1901), Montreal, nine sons, four havefamilies. Thomas Brereton, cabinetmaker, died in 1885 -- his sons Thomasand John."

Arthur's headstone in Grace Church Cemetery, Mascoushe, is broekn intwo places. It says "Sacred to the memory of Arthur Brereton died ??1874. Native of Kings Co"

In the graveyard of Grace Church in Mascoushe, Montreal, PQ, there is agravestone which is broken but appears to say "In memory of ElizaBrereton...broken in between pieces...aged 70 years. Also her sisterJane, wife of Arthur Brereton. Died Jan 27 1899 aged 87 years. Nativesof Queen's County Ireland."
