Dad's Comings and Goings

This is a log of things we hear from Dad and Erne. As you have interactions, feel free to send them along and we can include them. This way we'll all be more familiar with what is happening with Dad. Here's the Regency web site.
October 24, 2006: Dad is looking forward to the big move and seeing Dave, Jane, and Sam soon. Here's a note from Erne: << Hi Bruce, 11:40 is fine. Don said he would like to go out for dinner. How about Mitzels? He has been good this past week, but a little confused since Sunday, I think he has missed you. We went on a nice scenic ride yesterday. This morning he had a hard time communicating with a few things. He had not shaved all last week until Sunday, he looked so scruffy. We didn't go shopping last Wed. so we do need a few things. See you in a few hours. Love, Erne >>
September 23, 2006: Dad had a pretty good Saturday. Here's a note from Erne: << Good Morning Bruce, Just thought it would be nice to give you a good report for a change. Your dad got up on his own, early, he is in a very happy mood. Laughing and teasing. We just got back from breakfast, he told me there is another load of clothes to do and I told him it was his turn to do them. He laughed and laughed. 'Taint funny McGee'. Hope it lasts through the day. See you later next week. Love, Erne >>
September 8, 2006: Erne is gone to California from the 10th to 16th. Here's a note from Erne: << Your dad has been having ups and downs, one day he is really good and tries so hard to do things right and the next day he is a real handful, not wanting to change or help and rather cranky. will talk with the nurse about getting the girls to get his washing done while I am gone. See you soon. Love Erne. >>
August 19, 2006: We visit Dad and Erne on Friday and we do a little shopping. Then we see them on Saturday and go to the Blackberry Blast. A note from Erne: << Hi Bruce, Thurs. would be good. I also think going to the strorage would be good too.
It was quite foggy this morning so decided I would stay home from the 'scenic drive' as I hurt all over. Just got up for a min. and went in to see if Dad left, it was 10:15 and he is asleep on his chair. I go to the eye Dr. in Oak Harbor tommorow. Then I need to start on my hearing. Maybe if I do that he will too.The sun is coming out, so might make me feel better. Love, Erne >>
August 1, 2006: Erne is off to Canada with Susie (Susie picked her up yesterday). Just talked with Dad and he is doing fine. Jand & family are here this week and they'll be seeing Dad in a couple of days. We are off on our Stake Pioneer trek tomorrow morning.
July 28, 2006: Note from Erne: <<< Hi Bruce, Every thing seems normal this morning. We slept in a bit, but made it to breakfast. He has on his yellow shirt which is quite messy, but didn't say anything about it. He made his bed but his room smells. The TV room seems to be okay. The Faberge plug in seems to be doing a good job, if you happen to be in the grocery store before you come up, would you pick me up a couple, I will get several more on Wed. shopping day. Haven't used them before this so don't know how long they last, but they seem stronger than the others. I got them at Safeway. Time to clean up. Erne>>>

July 14, 2006: Dad is doing pretty well now and has recovered from the big trip to Utah. When at dinner (on his birthday) we asked him about previous birthday's that he remembered:
- When he was 12, he got a trumpet. He recalled having dinner and then waiting for his Dad to bring home the instrument. It was 7pm, then 8pm, then at 9 pm, and he finally got home. Dad was pretty excited about the trumpet.
- When he was 14, we went to the symphony a lot. He had a bus pass and went all the time.
- He mentioned about his first car ... he bought it when he got out of the Navy and it was a maroon, convertible, Ford.

June 29, 2006: Had a fun birthday celebration with Dad.
June 22, 2006: Erne got back from her trip to Canada, but she is not feeling too well. Went to the doctor and she has bronchitis. Dad is glad that she is back in town. We'll be seeing them on the 29th, for Dad's birthday!

June 8, 2006: Went up to Oak Harbor on Monday. Dad was doing pretty good. Erne will be gone until the 24th, so feel free to call him when you can. Below is another note from Erne (right before she left). We did get the hair cut on Monday and then I have an appointment next Tuesday with the staff.

<<< Hi Bruce, Susie is here and we are just getting ready to go. Dad is feeling pretty good right now altho I have been having a heck of a time keepin him 'clean'. Right now, everything he owns and wears is 'clean'. I have been washing for days. Will get in touch when I know more about what and when we are doing things. Your dad needs a hair cut, and a shoe horn. Oh, Kathy (nurse) said they want to have a 'chat' with us, about Dad. Susie is waiting, so bye, Love Erne >>>

June 1, 2006: A note from Erne: <<< Hi Bruce, We are doing fine at the moment, just the usual things. You are coming up at a good time for your dad as I am leaving Sat. afternoon to go up to Susie's, for an overdue rest. Don't know for just how long, Chris will go up next week and I will go back with her. So may be two weeks or so. If I find out for sure, the times, would you be able to meet me at the ferry term. in Anacortes? when I get in. Your dad bought a new pair of shoes --slip ons, I haven't seen him wear them yet and I think he might need a 'shoe horn' with a long handle.~!!!!!! I will read him your letter when he wakes up for dinner. I just got back from the eye Dr. and now have to get my glasses. He said when I come back, he will see about doing more laser work on my eyes for my diabetes That's a wow of a surprise. We enjoyed your note and pictures of the Ukraine. We also enjoyed the visit from Patsy and Katelyn. and the gifts. We were really surprised when they walked it. Love Erne >>>

The Reunion trip sounds great and anything you need to do or get then go right ahead.  . . . >>>

April 19, 2006: Easter with Dad and Erne:

April 16, 2006: Trip to St. Louis:

April 10, 2006: Dad's brother Bob passed away. It looks like we won't be going. We are going up today to see Dad and Erne and then take them out to dinner. Here's a note from Erne: <<< Hi Bruce, Tomorrow will be fine, Sally left yesterday and is at Susies right now. She will leave for home tomorrow and stop in at Robbie's. It will be nice to see Eliza, please bring her, it will be good to see a "sweet fresh young face" around here. Your Dad and I are always happy to go out for dinner. Your dad doesn't seem too anxious to go to St. Louis. Not sure why, he had a few questions that really didn't make sense but think he was trying to find a good reason why he shouldn't go. ... >>>

April 3, 2006: We had a great "Brothers Reunion" and a fun opportunity to be with Dad. Here's some pictures:
Here's a note back from Robbie ... <<< Hi Bruce, talked to your Dad at some length twice in the last week. He was sure happy that you and your brothers visited with him last week. I'll bet it was a highlight of the year for him. At least from the way he talked about it. (wouldn't stop talking about it - I finally had to tell him I phoned for Mom). Knowing how talkative he usually is - I'm wondering if your brothers know the impact the visit made on him. Hope this finds you well, Robbie >>>

March 27, 2006: Dad called very late last night and said he was going to be taking the "train" down in the morning. He has taken the bus before, so I asked if we meant the bus ... no, it is the "t", "r", "a", "i", "n". Sent a note to Erne about it and here's the explanation (as you might expect) ... <<< Hi Bruce, Happy you are coming up, your dad needs his suit taken to the cleaners, probably two of them, they are really in need of being cleaned. The train ride he talked about must be something he saw on TV. He asked me if I would like to go to dinner on a train, I tried to tell him there was none on the island but he insisted there was and said he had made reservations, he wanted to go last night. I figured maybe he was hungry so gave him some little pizza things I had and a bowl of fruit. He ate it up and no more was said about a train ride. I had the laser work done on my right eye on Wed. I couldn't believe how improved it was. I was reading an article in a magazine and suddenly thought, hey I'm reading without my glasses. Can see great with that eye but I am wearing my glasses anyway because without them the left eye gets tired. Will have laser work done on that one next month. There is some kind of stigmatism behind the retina, so not sure what that involves. In case I forget when you are here, I need to show you a problem on the computer, and also need you to set my clock in the bedroom. Will be glad to see you. Love, Erne. >>

We had a great time today and here are a couple of photos.

March 3, 2006: Another note from Erne: <<< Morning Bruce, Just thought I'd give you an update on your Dad. He seems to be fine today. Two nights ago, just before bedtime, he bent over to pick up something he'd dropped and fell, he was right by his bed so he turned over and kind of crawled up on his bed. He slept well and was fine (he said) in the morning, guess he was already down low when he fell so didn't hurt anything. He is fine, and looking forward to going to the activity room to see a program with many of the local children, about Dr. Suess (sp?) Not much else to report. Having nice sunny weather. Love, Erne >>>
February 28, 2006: A note from Erne: <<< Hi Bruce, Thanks for your email. Yes, I have slept most of the last few days, and feel better, which is a good thing, your Dad woke up this morning and said he hurt all over, so I brought his breakfast up to him but he had a hard time getting to the table, which he insisted on doing, even with the help of the walker. but he is eating. It rained last night so that might be the culprit altho he has never been bothered by arthritis or anything of that sort before. He seems to be eating fine tho. He was quite excited that all the boys will be here for conference with him. I copied out your letter and have it taped up on my desk, so we will remember the dates, etc. It was a brilliant idea you had. He is almost finished so will close and help him to his chair or wherever he wants to sit or lay. Will keep you posted on how he is. Love, Erne >>>

February 24, 2006: Dad came down to see Pasty's play. We had fun time. Erne missed the plane because of her flight being delayed coming out of Canada. But, she did make it to Langley (on the shuttle) at 10:40 and then I brought them both back home.

February 10, 2006: Note from Erne ... Had a great time at the Regency Valentine party. To the surprise of all, your Dad and I went up and danced, then lots more got up. He also surprised us all when he went and got Virginia to dance. She wanted to so much and was so happy to dance. We were all so proud of him, we came up shortly after that, our legs wouldn't take any more. We also had a very special dinner. I even got Norman, our table partner, to dance, he was shy but after we danced he went on dancing with others. It was a good night. Time for bed, Love to you all, Erne
January 29, 2006: Parts of a note from Erne: <<< Welcome back. Your Dad has had a pretty good week. I have had a bad one. All this time I thought it was my asthma coming back, it has been my heart. I go in to the hospital on the 2nd and then to the Drs. on the 7th. Go to the eye Dr. on the 31st at 10am. Go to the hospital for an EKG Have been pretty sluggish the past week. All the appts. are in the morning. I am sure the folks here would love to have Doug play the bagpipes for them, are you going to play too? Margie is going to come and get me for a trip to Canada and stay a few days too. We are waiting for the weather to clear up over the passes. Thanks for the pictures of the sailboat, looks great, will get them on for your Dad when he gets through with the Walton's. Hope we see you soon. Love, Erne >>>

January 16, 2006: We had another nice visit with Dad and Erne:

January 4, 2006: A note from Erne ... <<< Hi Bruce, Happy New Year to you All. I should have done this a few days ago but, I just couldn't put that book down that Patsy gave me. I finished it two days ago and then I 'misplaced' my glasses, got a lot of things cleaned up as I was searching for them ... We have been fine, quiet like. Dad had a few mean days but has come out of it okay. We just started getting a series on TV with JAG, it is on from 7 til 12, different series of the ones we saw in Wenatchee and we are both enjoying it. The weather has been cool with a bit of rain now and then, but I came through it all with mild asthma and am clear of it all right now. Sure is nice to be able to breathe. Our love to you and the 'girls'. Erne >>>

December 26, 2005: Had a fun time with Dad and Erne the day after Christmas:

November 29, 2005: Going up to see Dad today (and get the new TV). Here's part of note from Erne. This should give you a general feel of things:  << Our TV is on the blink and we think we need to get a new one. He's had this one even before we got married so guess it is time. Had Bob come up and look at it and he didn't know what was wrong, thinks it may be old age, like us. So the next time you come up will have some things for you to do. Also need to get the Christmas box from the storage. He has also lost his scriptures, so I will ask at church and if we can't find them, will get him some for Christmas. He lost them a long time ago. Just after we got here. Things aren't as bad as this all sounds, at least not all of them and he does miss his TV. >>

November 14, 2005: Just talked with Dad. He had gone on an hour look bus tour around the area. It sounds like they had a lot of fun! He said how they were telling the bus driver to go here or there, etc. Erne is in Canada this week (with Bill). She gets back on Tuesday the 22nd and Eliza and I are picking her up from the airport. We are looking forward to a fun Thanksgiving with lots of family (Doug, Eliza, Dad, Erne, and us guys here). I'll be going up to Oak Harbor tomorrow for lunch with Dad and then some errands.
October 25, 2005: A note from Erne ... Hi Bruce, We'll be looking for you tomorrow, need to get into the storage for some winter clothes. Maybe we will do a bit of the morning shopping and then go for some groceries when you are here. Good to hear Jane has had her baby, our Jenn had a little boy, the same day, his name is Owen, Karen's grandson. See you tomorrow. Love Erne.
October 15, 2005: Had an exciting day concerning Dad. He tried to walk to Wal-mart (and didn't sign out - like you are suppose to). He got part way there and then got a ride home. Everything is fine and he said he won't do that again.
September 25, 2005: Visited Dad and Erne this weekend while I was on my Tour de Whidbey bike ride. We went right by their place, so I just had to stop in for a few minutes. Things are going along pretty well, but there are some issues at times. We are working out some finance items.
September 13, 2005: Dad had a fall today. He is doing okay, but they did call the paramedics. He was with Erne at her physical therapy session. He had gone to use the restroom and fell down. I just talked with the nurse and then with Dad. He seems to be doing just fine, so that is good. We'll be going up there on Saturday for a visit (and bringing them to the Blackberry Festival).
August 31, 2005: Here's a quick update from Erne. Dad saw his doctor for the first time yesterday. << Hi Bruce, Just got in from the Drs. I can use my Walker--but he said it would hurt some. Finding out now that the seat is a lot harder and not as comfortable as the Walker. He has increased the Lasex for your Dad's ankles in hopes that it will drain more of the liquid.. Need a bit of a 'lay down' til dinner time. Will write more later. Love Erne >>
August 26, 2005: Here's another note from Erne: <<< Hi Bruce, Sounds good about the car. Sorry your dad has been on the phone so often, he has your number memorized, so hope he doesn't overdo it too much. Shari called yesterday, she is trying to get down and hopes to come tomorrow, without the kids. We have a few things we want to do and one is to get a few more boxes from the storage. Also thought we would go look at beds at one of the furniture stores around town as you suggested. I am still in the wheel chair but can get in and out of it and to bed, alone and get up during the night, but can't stand yet ... sure is frustrating. Went to a Yoga/Tai Chi class this morning, learning to breathe better and I ejoyed it. There were about six of us. This afternoon, your Dad and I went to hear a speaker talk about his year in Iraq. Very interesting. I am trying to keep myself occupied. Time to go get ready for bed. Nite. Love, Erne >>
August 17, 2005: Here's a note from Liss Swift Miller. She is the daughter Marion Alice Brereton (grandfather Brereton's first wife). I thought you might find this interesting, if you hadn't heard about this already: <<< ... we met at Aunt Jane's funeral. It was wonderful to see your Dad, despite the depressing circumstances. My mother always felt especially close to your dad and referred to him as "my baby", since she took care of him for quite some time after he was born due to the situation with Grandmother Brereton. When she was at "the Lake", people often assumed that he was her baby. I will get a copy of the report that Cousin Gordon wrote at the request of Uncle Bob Brereton. He sent me a copy at the time, and I have read it many times ... >>>  The "situation" was that it was very difficult for grandmother Brereton, when Dad's twin passed away.
August 13, 2005: Erne had a fall on Thursday. We were in the hospital for 5 hours on Friday and she had a fractured pelvis (in two places). It will take 4-5 weeks for her to recover. I came up again on Saturday and we finalized things with the sale of their house in Wenatchee. Dad was very talkative about things. How he as called "D4" when he was young. Given the Navel Air Base in Oak Harbor, the person we were eating dinner with talked about how her husband was in the Navy. Dad talked about how he was a "navigator" on the destroyer he was on and how they went to Korea several times. There was a Lieutenant that was suppose to navigate, but he couldn't do it so Dad did it (and he was just an Ensign). He mentioned how he had to bring the ship in at an angle, give the currents and the tide. We talked about playing musical instruments when young and Dad mentioned how he played the French Horn.
August 9, 2005: Things are going fairly well for them. Erne went to a one week reunion with her family. Dad did pretty well while she was gone. They have someone bringing them to Church, so that's nice. We've been getting things setup around the place like the computer, stereo, pictures hung, etc.
July 31, 2005: Hi everyone! Dad and Erne are all moved into their new place in Oak Harbor, Washington. Their address is: 1040 Kimball Drive #229, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. Their phone number is: (360) 679-1520.
July 11, 2005: Dad and Erne had a fun time here in July for a big 80th birthday bash. Erne reports that Dad has been talking more and is excited about doing "crossword puzzles" when he gets to Oak Harbor. Dad no longer has his drivers license. Also, the move is still on for July 18-19th. He had a good doctors visit in Omak on the 6th and everything went well.

June 14, 2005: Had a great visit with Dad and Erne last week. We saw the place in Oak Harbor and everyone seems to be excited about the move. Here's some photos of things at the house that might be available.

Erne as now recuperated from her pneumonia and congestive heart failure. She spent two weeks in Kelowna after she was released from the hospital. Dad is going in for eye surgery on the 15th; his cataract surgery he had done awhile ago didn't go as expected. He'll be in overnight and Brian (his home teacher) will bring him home.

May 27, 2005: From Donna: Hello! We had a wonderful visit from dad. I went to all of his scout meetings with him. They were very interesting, and we had some great meals served. We heard from Steve Fosset (1st man to fly solo non-stop in a hot air balloon), an astronaut who headed the space mission to repair the Hubble Telescope, and the head designer from Chevrolet in charge of the team who designs Corvettes ... Dad even introduced me to President Monson. I got a wheelchair for dad and rolled him around. This made things easier because he walks very slowly. Dad kept really good track of his medicines (which are at breakfast, lunch, and dinner) ... I was happily surprised to see how mentally aware dad was. He knew what was going on and could answer any questions I asked ...
May 10, 2005: Hi Bruce, Patsy and Katelyn, Thanks so much for the lovely tulips, they are one of my favorite colors, lilac, and I don't have any tulips in my garden so I planted them in the front, at the bottom of the steps. Bruce, your Dad really enjoyed the pictures of you and Doug sailing. It perked him right up. I have been doing water aerobics or exercises. I enjoy it and my right knee feels good. But it has been raining for the last two days, on and off, I now have asthma. It has lightened up today but don't think I should go to the pool tomorrow. Will wait til Friday. Your Dad called Donna and talked to her for awhile, he was quite excited that he was going to stay with her for the Boy Scout meeting. He has been sleeping quite a lot this past week or so.    Love to you all, Erne
May 4, 2005: Talked with Dad today and he was doing very well. Talked about a lot of things. He is recovering from a recent cough. The eye is still not doing well. He is taking drops in order to soften the retina and he has an appointment next week. We've been talking about Donna bringing him to the Annual Boy Scout meeting (in May). Also, working on some Oak Harbor options for them.

May 1, 2005: Jim Gamble update: Susan was massaging Mom's legs yesterday and felt a hard spot that concerned her. The nursing staff was sufficiently concerned that it might be an indication of a blood clot that last night they sent Mom to St. Luke's Hospital, 232 South Woods Mill Road, Room 8718, Chesterfield, MO 63017; direct telephone, 314-523-2670. They did an ultrasound examination of Mom's legs earlier today and found a clot in a small vein near the surface but no clots in deep veins. Clots in the deep veins would concern them a lot more than the one she has. She is receiving appropriate medication and will have another ultrasound examination on Tuesday. In the meantime, she is resting comfortably.

Apr. 21st, 2005: Another update on Aunt Peggy from Jim Gamble: Mom's condition continues to improve, and she has passed a milestone. Yesterday morning, Dr. Taylor removed her tracheal tube. We met with the medical team this morning, and if she continues on her present course, she should leave the hospital sometime next week. The next stop will be a nursing home, for continued medical recovery and physical therapy. Thanks for your calls, cards, flowers, etc.; she appreciates it all.

Apr. 13th, 2005: Here is yesterday's update from Jim Gamble: [[ Mom passed a milestone today. For the first time since March 17, she is not getting oxygen. They took it off at about 8:00 this morning, and her blood oxygen level was fine all day--at least until I left at 5:00. Her color is better, also. Thanks for your support; it's helpful.]]

Talked with Dad yesterday and he just had his check-up with the eye doctor. There is a problem with the retina of the right eye and he has to stop using the drops for two weeks, then he goes back in. Joyce is now working at the house on Tuesday/Thursday. She did the bathrooms this week and on Thursday she will be working on Dad's room ... it should be exciting!

Apr. 11, 2005: We had a nice visit to Wenatchee last weekend. Things are going well. Katelyn had a state-wide school competition there. Here's some photos: www.brereton.org/whidbey/di-2005.htm. Dad's left eye cataract surgery didn't do too well and his eye is blurry for him. He is scheduled to go back to the doctor soon. Erne's knees are still not too good. She is using a walker now and taking some calcium pills. Erne uses a cane when she is out and we feel this would be good for Dad to use too (but, he's not to excited about trying it out)! Maybe some encouragement from others would be good.

Apr. 4, 2005: Here's an update from Jim Gamble concerning Aunt Peggy: << Mom's vital signs are good and she is gaining strength gradually. They took her off of the ventilator yesterday, but they may have put her back on it at low settings for the night. She is scheduled to have a cardiac cathaterization today, and possibly an angioplasty or stint (if she has a cardiac artery with reduced blood flow and they can improve it by either of those methods). >>

Mar. 27, 2005: Dad and Erne are visiting Chris and family on Vancouver Island for Easter. They get back on the 30th.

Mar. 21, 2005: I talked with Dad tonight. He got a call from Jim Gamble a few days ago and Aunt Peggy is in the hospital. She had a stroke and things were not looking very good. Jim called again yesterday and she seems to be improving a bit.

Mar. 20, 2005: Erne woke up today to get ready for Church and her ankle was twice the size as normal. After consulting Susie, they thought it might be a blood clot. So, Dad & Erne went to the Emergency room and had X-rays taken. It's wasn't a blood clot, so they went home. They still need to talk to Dr. Colby about it. Also, Erne found out this week that her bones are not strong enough to handle the knee surgery. She has some medicine now to strength her bones. They are going to see how this goes and possible the surgery can be done at a later time.
Mar. 15, 2005: Dad's birthday plans are all set. Bruce, Patsy, Eliza, and Katelyn will be in Wenatchee on June 29th (stopping by on the way home from Utah). Then on July 2nd (when Carol's family gets to Whidbey for their reunion) we'll have another little party for Dad. Some of Jane's family will be here and possibly others. Of course, everyone is invited!!! Also, just so you are aware, Erne is having quite a few problems with her left knee. She did a bone density test a couple of days ago and they are waiting for the news back on this. Then it is looking like they will be doing a knee replacement operation. This may impact her ability to come to Whidbey in July. We'll have to see how things go.
Mar. 8, 2005: Talked with Erne last night and Dad's eye surgery went well (on his left eye). He was there from about 12:30 until 5pm. We are working on some plans for Dad's 80th birthday. Given Carol's family reunion on Whidbey Island this summer, we were thinking of having him come out to the beginning of this. We would have a birthday cake for him at the barn and there should be about 25-30 Brereton's there (mostly Carol's family). Things are still a little tentative at this point. We just wanted everyone to know about things. Another idea that is in the mill, is having a "girls type reunion". This would be for girls 8 to 16 years old (or something like this). Donna's, Jim's, and Jane's family were thinking of coming. The plan was to do this the first week in July as well. So, then we'd get more people here for Dad's big party!
Feb. 26, 2005: Working on Dad's taxes. But, still missing a few items. Talked with Dad today and he is looking for the items (end of the year statements). He seems to be doing well. They have Stake Conference this weekend.
Feb 18, 2005: We had a nice visit with Dad. Once we got the "central power unit" set correctly (i.e., to 77 degrees) everything went great! Dad had forgot some of his medicine, so he ended up having to go back a little early. It was fun to have Doug up for part of the time as well. Patsy and I drove back with Dad to Monroe and then he went the rest of the way by himself. We are still a bit concerned about his ability to get the foot on the brake fast enough and his walking seems to be slowing down a bit. Here's a few photos. Erne gets home on Sunday, so Dad will be by himself until then. He called 3 times yesterday, to make sure we were watching JAG.
Feb 11, 2005: Erne is going to be visiting some of her children, so Dad is coming here to Whidbey island. He called yesterday and gave me the news! We are a bit concerned about him driving all the way here, but sometimes there is no way to change his opinion on things. I'm going to meet him on the other side so I can guide him through the process of getting on the ferry. It should be an exiting day!

Feb. 10, 2005: Note from Chris:

Hi Bruce. Just heard your Dad is going to stay with you for a week. Mom says he's really excited and was so happy that you were "letting" him come. I'm just a little worried/concerned about him driving down there by himself. Will be thinking of him. Let me know when he gets there ok, will you? Erne will be visiting Suzie.

Take care, Chris

Feb. 3, 2005: Here's a note from Erne:

Hi Bruce, Thanks for your note. We got home fine, we had the front seat on the bus and this is always nice. There was no snow in Wenatchee when we arrived. One of the other passenger's gave us a ride home and helped with the luggage. We really did meet a lot of nice people on the trip.

We are both pretty well over our colds, your Dad went down to see Pres. Benion, who is our 'optometrist', he (dad) has a cataract in his left eye and has to go get it fixed on March 8th. We have had good sunny weather since coming home. We are still kind of tired and are having a few naps each day. Had lots of e-mails, so will be busy with this for a week or so. Have a good trip, your Dad says hello and give our regards to any of the family you see. Love, Erne

Jan. 23-30, 2005: Mexico Cruise with Dad and Erne. Here are a few photos. Dad did pretty well, but was very slow moving at times. The first day (traveling there) was very tough. Erne's ankles were very large and sore. Erne mentioned that Dad's legs were purple! He did better after having rested for a few days.

Nov. 8, 2004: A note from Chris (Erne's daughter):

Mom says your Dad seems to be feeling sad/tired since the news of his sister's death. She said he doesn't say anything, but he's been sleeping more and just seems a bit confused/upset. It must be difficult for him when he can't express what he feels (not that most men do anyways!!!) but I think you know what I mean. ...

Nov. 2004: Trip to St. Louis for Aunt Jane's funeral. See some photos.
