TEN THINGS I LEARNED FROM MOM

1. All living creatures have a soul.

2. Chocolate is good. Very good.

3. Always side with the underdog. Even scruffy types need someone to call "mom."

4. Love is the most important thing. Even more important than money ... but chocolate's a close second.

5. Blood is thicker than water, but above all "sisters" need to stick together.

6. Homemade is best. Especially waffles and fudge, but also valentines and birthday cards.

7. Don't litter. Recycle. Be neat: watever you do, do well, and don't leave a mess behind you. (Yes, I'm still struggling with that one! "My" life lesson?)

8. Be yourself. Even if you're years behind (or ahead) of the trends, be authentic and you'll never feel like the oddball you are.

9. Even Steven; Honesty is the best policy: life, somehow "is" fair, even when it really, really doesn't seem like it.

10. Give of yourself: the awe I feel looking our birthday needlepoint pictures.

Love is an act – a sewing stitch or a strong, tired hand stirring fudge for 45 minutes so it will be just right – love is a verb.

And you are its incarnations

Love from your favorite eldest daughter Elizabeth
