YM/YW Project - Hygiene Kits

South Whidbey Youth Help Orphans in Ukraine

The Young Men/Young Women organization of the local LDS church assembled hygiene kits for an orphanage in Ivano Frankivsk (located in western Ukraine). The youth from South Whidbey, put the kits together at their mid-week activity on March 30th. There were 150 kits assembled and it included shampoo, a hand towel, wash cloth, a comb, soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste. The 150 toothbrushes were generously donated by Dr. Frank G. Ploof. His dental office is located at 221 Anthes Avenue, Langley. Along with the hygiene products, the youth included a personal note to the child receiving the kit and a self-addressed envelope so that they can write back. The children in this orphanage are from 3 to 16 years old.

These kits are being delivered by Project Reach Out (PRO). A non-profit charitable organization founded to help improve the conditions of orphanages in Ukraine. The current condition of the orphanages is far below acceptable living standards. Many children are denied proper nutrition, medical needs, and basic supplies. PRO is currently working with eight orphanages in western Ukraine (www.projectreachout.com).
