Network Sighting Report To: susan@orcanetwork.org Sent: Friday, May 13, 2005 10:25 AM ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May 12 Susan! saw three grays off Possession Ridge today, headed south at 2:00 PM. There was a boat of watchers, oh, within 50 feet. I thought maybe they were researchers. Two of the whales were side by side, and I would take that to be a mother and calf. The boat was right on them. The homeowner, two visitors, and three of us carpenters witnessed it. It was fun to see the whales, but we were all agrieved by the boaters. It almost seemed they were herding them toward shore. Rob Harrison ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May 12 Tom McMillen of Salish Sea Charters reported 2 gray whales in the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry lanes at 1:15 pm, headed south. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May 12 Just saw two (gray) whales in the sound. They looked like they were having a good time feeding. It was 10:15 a.m. and about 1/2 mile west of Langley, in the Saratoga Passage. Bruce Brereton Langley, WA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May 12 0815 Bells Beach (Saratoga Psg, NW of Langley) I was treated to two grays this morning, who joined me for breakfast! It looked like they were hungry. They feed near the crab pot bouys, and headed toward Langley. So glad they're still hangin around. Peggy Sullivan Bells Beach/Langley ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May 11 I was on the beach about a mile I up the passage from Langley yesterday at about 5 pm and heard a telltale 'whooshh'. Minutes later I saw a single grey high-tailng it down the passage towards Langley. I don't know that it stopped to feed along there. It was moving pretty fast, but close to shore.
